Amongst the items I asked Santa Claus for this year was a new microphone so I can improve the quality of voice-overs in our YouTube videos.

The World's #1 USB Microphone. Create unparalleled recordings with your computer using Blue's best-selling family of Yeti USB microphones. Thanks to our proprietary tri-capsule technology, Yeti condenser microphones produce pristine, studio-quality recordings with legendary ease.

The famous white-bearded one (no, not Gandalf!) kindly obliged, putting a Blue Yeti device under my tree.

  • EDIT: I tried changing usb ports (2.0 to 3.0, vice versa) and that did not help or change anything at all. My cables are not the issue either, as they do not grow how or show any signs of damage/wear. (Mini USB) It came with the microphone, and it was the one that the company Blue Yeti had included in the box.
  • Locate your problematic Blue Yeti mic. Right-click on the device. Select the Update driver option. Make Device Manager search for the driver you need online. Select the ‘Search automatically for updated driver software’ option. Device Manager will search for the driver needed online. However, it may fail to succeed in this.
  • World’s #1 USB Microphone $ 129.99. High-Res USB + XLR Mic $ 249.99. BRUSHED ALUMINIUM. Follow the instructions on the Yeti Pro drivers download.
  • Microphone Drivers If the operating system does not detect the microphone, you must first make sure that the microphone drivers are installed. In addition, do not forget that manufacturers of microphones strongly recommend installing the latest drivers.

Whilst the official documentation for the Yeti name-checks compatibility with Windows and Mac OS it doesn’t mention Linux.

Thankfully getting the USB-powered microphone set up in Ubuntu is painless.

Setting Up Blue Yeti in Ubuntu

  • First step is to connect the microphone to your PC via the USB cable
  • Open ‘Sound Settings‘ option present in the Ubuntu Sound Menu
  • Select the ‘input’ tab from the Sound Settings window
  • Under the section headed ‘Choose a device for sound input’ select ‘Yeti Stereo Microphone’

Your Yeti is now set-up for recording. To test how well its working, and whether you need to adjust the gain on the microphone, use the ‘Sound Recorder’ application that ships with Ubuntu by default.

Lastly, and this step is optional, to enable use of the external headphones jack on the Yeti repeat the above steps but choose ‘the output’ tab and select the Yeti option.

Try another USB port on your computer, then check to see if this fixes your driver issue.
You can fix your driver issues by updating your device drivers.
You’t don need to find a proprietary driver for Blue Yeti.
Unless you’re using a Blue Yeti Pro product, you can’t find any driver specially for your Yeti microphone. But that doesn’t mean updating your drivers is not a good fix. A corrupted or outdated USB or audio driver can cause your issue, so you should still make sure your device drivers are up to date.
If you don’t have the time, patience or skills to update your driver manually, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.
Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing.

1) Download and install Driver Easy.
2) Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
