DearNew 5th Grade Student,
Welcometo Room 64! I am so happy to have you in class. It is already thattime of year to start thinking about your new teacher and classmates. I hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready to tell me all aboutyour fun activities. I was busy planning your year in 5thgrade and reading many great books. 5th grade is going tobe an amazing year and I look forward to meeting you on the first dayof school. There are many exciting activities, programs, and ourvery own Classroom Constitution based on our School motto R.O.A.R.S.,field trips and special 5th grade activities.
Wehave a some exciting activities and fun field trips in 5thgrade and I thought I would tell you about those first. First we goto Sloper's Day Camp in Southington for Team building fun. Thepermission slip is enclosed in this letter and due the first few daysof school. In the spring, we will plan a tripto Sturbridge Village to learn all about Colonial America.
In5th grade the homework and reading expectations are listedon my website and I encourage you to take a peek and wander around mysite to see our schedule, expectations, and specials. I hope you takea few moments to read over your class responsibilities and payparticular attention to your homework expectations. We keep readinglogs in our room to keep track of your daily reading as well as ahomework chart. Students who complete all their assignments for amonth earn a free homework pass for one night.
Inmost subjects areas you will be required to write responses in schooljournals or create a computer printout. Iam most excited about working on the Chromebooks and developingprojects based on our learning. I am sure you will as well.
Thisyear you will have the opportunity to sign up to take instrumentslessons and perform in the band. As you remember from 4thgrade, the 5th grade band was very large and played quitewell. I hope you sign up because it is a great way to meet newfriends and learn how to read music. We will also take part inD.A.R.E. with Officer Posasdos.
